While there are a number of beneficial enchantments in Minecraft they come with the possibility of introducing a curse onto your items. The Curse of Vanishing is a particularly nefarious one for those playing survival as any item infected with it will disappear forever if the player dies while wearing the cursed item.

This has led to some traumatic moments for players which in turn has been a source of some hilarious memes for the rest of us to laugh about. Here are some of the best Curse of Vanishing memes on the internet right now.

10 Cursed Jöergen

Much of the re-surging popularity with Minecraft has been the result of a famous Youtuber creating a series of videos showing them going on some grand adventures and getting into some crazy hijinks in a survival world.

This meme highlights the differences between two of their pals in the game: Sven, a wolf who has managed to survive a number of life-threatening situations and Jöergen, a horse that died early on. It’s also a tongue in cheek reference to the fan theory that anything named Sven will survive the series while the multiple things named Jöergen have died.

9 No Power

This meme is an amusing acknowledgment of the fact that Curse of Vanishing is only a threat if you die while wearing the item. This is a problem hardcore players will never face as they’re constantly on alert to avoid death which is the only time this curse is ever a problem.

It’s also worth noting that playing in hardcore will result in the entire world vanishing, a single item, no matter how rare or valuable, is small potatoes by comparison. Perhaps an unintended joke is that the meme suggests Hardcore players are already cursed, considering Théoden is under Wormtongue’s curse in this moment of the film.

8 Vanishing Dad

This is probably the most common meme related to the Curse of Vanishing and it’s a good one if you don’t mind a bit of dark humor. The implication here is that some people have dads who aren’t present in their life and must have the Curse of Vanishing on them.

Although it’s not entirely accurate given death is required for the Curse to take place, this is still a great meme for players to make light of and cope with an honestly depressing reality too many people face. Let’s hope more dads out there have Curse of Binding instead.

7 Antisocial

As much as we love our families there are times when we just simply don’t want to be around or would like to vanish into thin air to escape some of the drama, stress, and prodding questions that come with being around family.

This meme could either make us want to be the boots so that we can disappear or that we had boots that would allow us to disappear. Probably so we could get back to playing more Minecraft.

6 Worst Trade Ever

Villagers are a valuable resource in the game as they can trade precious items like diamond tools, armor, unique materials from different biomes and most importantly enchanted books. Unfortunately, sometimes the librarians are either bad at their job or are hoping to swindle a gullible player into spending their cold hard emeralds on a book enchanted with Curse of Vanishing.

This meme uses Edward from Fullmetal Alchemist to explain that trading a book and 24 emeralds for the Curse of Vanishing is definitely not abiding by the law of equivalent exchange, but the more subjective law of villager exchange. That or it’s just a bonkers economy in general.

5 Vanishing Pencil

We’ve all been there, we’re busy taking notes or about to make a few notes, our pencil falls on the floor and it’s gone. As if there was a glitch in the Matrix and it’s suddenly no clipped through the floor and into the void beyond.

This meme makes the hilarious suggestion that such items have been cursed with vanishing. If that’s the case then lone socks, lip balm, ponytail holders, homework, car keys, and a variety of other items are probably afflicted with this curse.

4 Cast It Into The Fire!

This meme refers to an amusing moment in a YouTuber’s Minecraft series where they encounter a book enchanted with Curse of Vanishing and didn’t know what it was. They never applied it to anything, but their fans were left on edge.

This great meme shows how many of the fans were desperately lighting the comments up to get them to get rid of the book before they applied it to something important.

3 Hardcore Spongebob

Here’s another reference to how hardcore players react to the Curse of Vanishing surfacing in a villager trade, fishing, or part of chest loot. For many players this is a sinister item that needs to be discarded or removed immediately, but for hardcore players not so much.

In fact, if the curse comes with a useful enchantment, hardcore players are likely to slap it on anyway. It’s similar to how Spongebob reacts to the Flying Dutchman, disinterested and unafraid because you know it can’t truly hurt you.

2 Vanishing Wish

Everyone’s had that dream, desire, or wish they wanted to see come true only for it to never happen. Things like winning the lottery, getting the attention of a rich and attractive celebrity, or finding at least one librarian that sells something remotely useful.

This dark meme suggests that most of our wishes are probably afflicted with the Curse of Vanishing and will never happen. Alternatively, it could be that we do get our wish, but there’s a major catch involved; you have to pay through the nose in taxes on your lottery winnings, you get a celebrity’s attention only to find out they’re repulsed by you, or the one librarian you found is selling a cursed enchanted book.

1 Curse Of Vanishing VS Binding

While hardcore players might be a little blasé about Curse of Vanishing, given it only takes effect upon death there’s another curse they need to be wary of. The Curse of Binding will permanently affix the cursed item to the player character until it loses all of its durability and breaks or the player dies.

Just because you don’t fear one curse doesn’t mean there isn’t another to ruin your playthrough. On a side note, Patrick’s reaction is a hilariously accurate depiction of hardcore players realizing they accidentally applied these enchantments in the game.
