Minecon took place not long ago and announced a slew of game updates, upcoming events, and new features, including the Minecraft character creator. This feature was recently made available on Bedrock beta platforms. Now we can look forward to the feature rolling out to all Bedrock platforms, including iOS and the Nintendo Switch. The character creator will also be accessible in the newly announced AR adaptation, Minecraft Earth. However, for many Bedrock players, the most exciting thing about the character creator is the arrival of capes.
What Does Character Creator Let You Customize?
The character creator gives players the option to customize their character’s body or clothing. While body customization is free, accessories are available for sale and as rewards for taking part in various Minecraft-related activities. Body customization includes body shape and size, as well as skin, eye, and hair color, and a selection of hairstyles, facial hair, and expressions. There’s even an option for limb replacement. The best part is that each customization option is available for free.
For those who have invested heavily in custom skins either through purchase, import, or other means, have no fear. All of your previously acquired custom skins will still be accessible, though you won’t be able to edit them any further using the character creator.
No Capes… Until Now
The arrival of the character creator tool also introduces capes. To kick off the new update, the Founder’s Cape will be the first cape to make an appearance in the game. It will be available for a limited time later this fall.
The developers have hinted that they have “fun plans” for this feature. Though we don’t know what those plans are, we can speculate that it may have something to do with issuing capes as rewards for various events.
In a game based around customization and creativity, it is odd that the character creator hasn’t been available on all platforms until now. However, we’re glad that it’s finally here. Despite being a bit late on the draw, Minecraft’s character creator is making its public debut with all the bells, whistles, and capes attached.
Minecraft Bedrock is available on Android, iOS, Windows 10, Windows Phone, Fire OS, and Windows 10 Mobile.
