Minecraft for the New 3DS was announced a couple of days ago during the Nintendo Direct presentation, and people had been wondering whether this version would receive the Better Together update that’s due to be released in sometime in Autumn. It’s been confirmed that the New 3DS version won’t be getting in on the cross-platform love-in. So, don’t get your hopes up folks.
According to Aubrey Norris, who’s one of the game’s developers, the New 3DS version is a custom version of Minecraft designed solely for the handheld console. As a result of this, it won’t be receiving the Better Together Update and the New 3DS version will be limited to local multiplayer only.
The Better Together update is due out in Autumn, and will unify the Minecraft game experience across consoles and desktop on Windows 10. Better Together will bring same-day patches and feature parity to all versions of the game, as well as enabling online play across each platform. Unless you’re playing on PlayStation, which won’t be a part of this, because Sony has opted out of cross-platform play to ‘protect its players.’
