Minecraft: Pocket Edition and Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta will soon receive a hefty update which brings them more in line with the console and PC versions, Microsoft has announced.

Update 0.12.1 will allow up to five people to play cross-platform multiplayer on a local network for the first time between Minecraft: Pocket Edition and Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta, which is pretty cool.

Windows 10 Edition also now allows five players to join up over Xbox Live.

Pocket Edition updates also include:

  • Revamped touch controls
  • Controller support, and the controller mapping screen
  • The same enhanced weather effects that Windows 10 Edition Beta players have received, including snow accumulation and directional rain.
  • New goodies to build and potions to brew
  • Encounter golems and ocelots
  • Explore the Nether
  • The ability to sneak and sprint
