Oscar “mixwell” Cañellas and Yassine “Subroza” Taoufik have parted ways with Cloud9’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster. Subroza is no longer tied to the team, while Mixwell will stay contracted with the American esports organization as he looks for a new home. These moves come alongside rumors of the organization’s plans to sign the ATK Arena CS:GO lineup.
Oscar “mixwell” Cañellas announced his departure from Cloud9 earlier this week. The Spanish AWPer boasts an extensive career, having played under the OpTic Gaming and G2 Esports banners in the past. He kick-started his career in North America, winning Eleague Season 2 with OpTic Gaming. The team reached an all-time peak of second in the world rankings, the highest a North American lineup had ever reached at that point.
A move back to Europe saw him take up the G2 and Movistar Riders names, though he found minimal international success. Mixwell returned to North America, and signed with Cloud9 in July of this year as part of the organization’s roster revamp. The team reached a top-four placing at BLAST Pro Series Los Angeles, but failed to find any more LAN success.
Former Ghost Gaming rifler Yassine “Subroza” Taoufik joined Cloud9 on a trial basis in October, replacing 18-year-old Tyson “TenZ” Ngo on the active lineup. During his short tenure with the team, Cloud9 placed 5-8th in week four of ECS Season 8 and finished last at BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen.
The team was meant to compete in DreamHack Open Atlanta, but dropped out due to roster instability. Cloud9’s core of Timothy “autimatic” Ta, Damian “daps” Steele, and Kenneth “koosta” Suen then transferred to Gen.G, leaving Subroza and mixwell teamless.
Subroza is no longer tied to Cloud9, while mixwell remains under contract while he searches for a new team. Both players have stated that they are open to offers. Cloud9 has stated that they will remain in Counter-Strike esports. The organization is rumored to be signing the current ATK Arena lineup, who turned heads earlier this month with upset wins over North and G2 Esports at the ESL Pro League Season 10 Finals. No further announcements have been made by Cloud9, and it is unclear when the ATK signing is expected to go through.
