MLB: The Show will become a multiplatform franchise in the future and might be looking to release new entries on next-generation consoles, as reported by Eurogamer.
SIE San Diego Studio has developed the Major League Baseball video game series since 1997 with MLB ‘98 for the PlayStation 1. These games have always been produced for PlayStation platforms, so it’s quite noteworthy that a “multi-platform video game partnership” will break the pattern for the foreseeable future.
This is speculation and nothing of the like has been officially confirmed. However, Nintendo of America retweeted its support for the new venture, so it’s safe to say that the new games will come to the Switch. The announcement also revealed that MLB: The Show 20 will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the MLB: The Show series and will offer a, “variety of unique promotions and new gameplay features.”
Sony and SIE San Diego Studio have initiated a “multi-year extension to continue development and distribution” for MLB titles to come to “additional console platforms beyond PlayStation as early as 2021.” This opens an opportunity to develop for the Xbox and for the Switch, but we do know that we’re getting the Project Scarlett and PlayStation 5 in holiday 2020. It’s rational to imagine that the new games might be headed to next-generation platforms too.

MLB: The Show 19 is out now for the PlayStation 4.
