In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the most dangerous foe you could face online might just be this office chair.

Normally, the most dangerous thing in an online multiplayer shooter is another player. After all, they have guns. Lots of guns. Sometimes explosives, or flashbangs, or remote-controlled detonators, or drones with remote-controlled detonators, or sometimes all of the above. The point is, they have an arsenal of killing implements at their disposal. You do too, but no matter how many bullets are in your magazine, it just never seems to be enough. Maybe that’s just me.

For Modern Warfare players, they have to contend with an even more deadly foe: office chairs.

No, this isn’t some new game mode where office chairs come to life and attack their human overlords for a lifetime of butt-supporting servitude. These are just regular, inanimate office chairs that for some reason can kill you.

We have Reddit user “dfblh54” to thank for providing us with video evidence of this bizarre phenomenon. On the St. Petrograd map, if a player goes into one of the many office buildings and gets a little too close to the spinny office chairs, they can kill you.

Why? We’re not sure. Obviously it’s a bug, but it doesn’t seem like the chair is crushing the player against a wall or anything. It could be that a tiny portion of the player model is getting pinched by the office chair’s arm against the desk and this is enough of a collision to cause instant death, but it seems a bit of overkill considering it’s just an office chair.

This will likely be corrected in future game updates so that it just pushes the player aside rather than killing them outright. Or it might never be corrected at all: perhaps Infinity Ward is trying to send us a message about the dangers of office chairs. Maybe they’ve lost a developer or three to the deadly spinning action of these chairs.

We don’t know. All we know is: avoid the office chairs in Modern Warfare. It might just save your life.
