Mortal Kombat’s poster boy, Scorpion, has had plenty of different looks over the years. After all, the character that’s going to be on the box of the game needs to look the best. The firey ninja who now resides in the Netherrealm is a fan favorite for many and has some of the more iconic moves and phrases out of the entire roster.
Between different skins and different styles between the games, Scorpion has had some of the freshest threads out there. Here are his ten best, across all of the Mortal Kombat games.
10 10. Infrared (MKX)
You can’t look at this skin for long periods but it is still really cool. Part of the skin pack that came with the Predator DLC bundle, Scorpion looks the way that the Predator sees everybody all the time. This is definitely one of the more obnoxious skins in the series and by no means serious, but it is enjoyable in a ridiculous kind of way. Watching the very series Scorpion take on opponents with bright colors is one of those moments where it’s important to remember that video games are fun.
9 9. Mortal Kombat
The classic yellow ninja attire, the original look for Scorpion is one of the most iconic in all of video games. A game full of palette swap ninjas Scorpion very quickly became a fan favorite with his style and demon-like features. While it isn’t the most stylish by today’s standards, it’s important to remember where you started from. Plus, almost every single Mortal Kombat game has the skin in one form or another. Between paying respects to those who came before you and having an appreciation for the simplicity of the classic skin, it’s as important as it is cool.
8 8. Quan Chi’s Servant (MK11)
On the topic of the classic version of Scorpion, this Mortal Kombat 11 skin is very easily one of the closest representations of a modern take on the original yellow ninja style.
The classic clothing style, combined with a black and yellow color scheme makes this skin incredibly sleek. Combined with a massive skull of the belt and the mask are all the makings of the best ninja attire.
7 7. Catching Fire (MK11)
If you asked someone to draw Scorpion with top-tier raid armor, the Catching Fire skin would be what they come up with. Black clothes with white trimmings, layered underneath gold armor pieces. Combine that with a dope mask that strikes fear into the enemies of the Netherrealm. A gold sword and a gold chain are icy enough to make even Sub-Zero jealous of Scorpions setup. If you want to dress like royalty and still beat the absolute tar out of everybody, this is the skin for you.
6 6. Mortal Kombat (2011)
The default skin for Mortal Kombat (2011) (also known as Mortal Kombat 9) and the Tournament skin in Mortal Kombat X is easily one of the best default skins for Scorpion in the main series. Perhaps one of the more intimidating skins, between his spine hood and dual swords on his back, Scorpion came to the tournament meaning business. This was before his good-guy turn in the story as well, so he was out for blood and looked the part. It is easily his best modern-era base skin and hopefully a style that Scorpion finds his way back to.
5 5. Gold Scorpion (MKX)
The high-end version of the classic look, this sleek black skin with gold trimmings and face mask make for an awesome looking skin. When it comes to beating and finishing your foes in hand-to-hand combat, the only way to do it is in style.
The best way to do that is with the Gold Scorpion skin, the highest tier of fashion in the world of Mortal Kombat. The only downside to the skin is that it looks a little funky, most likely because it makes Scorpion slimmer than his default skin.
4 4. Kold War (MKX)
The other skin to Sub-Zero’s Tundra skin, the Kold War skin for Scorpion has everything you need to become a true comrade. The hat with the flaps on the side, complete with the hammer and sickle on the forehead. The haunting gas mask that makes anyone a little concerned about nuclear apocalypse. Seriously, it has a haunting gaze that nobody should look at for too long. It also comes with chains wrapped around Scorpion’s massive forearms, making him incredibly intimidating.
3 3. Bloody Hell (MK11)
Mortal Kombat 11 isn’t known for having the best skins, taking a quantity over quality approach, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some gems hidden in there. A reward for one of the first seasons for the game, the Bloody Hell skin features a base white with metallic red trim. It makes for a very fine-looking color scheme along with some strong design choices, going all-in on the Netherrealm ninja look, instead of some of the more Hanzo style skins the game has.
2 2. Mortal Kombat Deception
The Mortal Kombat Deception design takes a more armored approach to dressing the ninja, focusing more on his combat capability than stealth, counter-intuitive to most ninjas but not ones who are in fighting games. Equipped with two swords, shoulder pads and a chest plate, Scorpion came to kick-ass.
It is one of the more unique base skins for Scorpion throughout the series. It’s important to know that Scorpion is more than just a ninja and a hitman for Quan Chi, but truly one of the greatest warriors to ever enter the Mortal Kombat tournament.
1 1. Injustice
It might seem like heresy to pick a game that isn’t actually a Mortal Kombat game but the skin given to Scorpion when he was added to Injustice: Gods Among Us as DLC is easily the best he has ever looked. In fact, the skin is so well-liked that it got added to Mortal Kombat X. Scorpion looks like the otherworldly monster he is supposed to be in Injustice. Between the dark face and whitish eyes, he has a strong nightmare vibe to him. In addition to that, the over the shoulder scorpion stingers are menacing, if not impractical.
