I’ve never really been into this ‘console war’ business. I had some bad experiences back in school. Not being invited to play at recess, not allowed over to that guy’s house to ogle the Playboys he’d stolen from his big brother, and I was regularly the victim of the ultimate example of fourth-grade wit: your mama joke. All of this because I wasn’t a Mario or a Sonic guy. I was one of the genetic freaks, a new breed of enlightened gamer who didn’t discriminate and was cool with everything. You know, just like our forefathers intended.
That said, I dipped in and out of gaming, buying and enjoying consoles on their own merits rather than which company made them. I was late the fifth generation console party, and never actually owned an N64 until I became a retro collector and player as an adult. It’s since become one of my favourites, right alongside its bitter rival the PS1. I like to think I’m quite knowledgeable about Nintendo 64, but how about you?
