Saying that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a really good game would be an honest understatement. Its story, characters, length, side quests, whole RPG system truly sets it apart from similar video games, and even those that may share multiple similarities. As such, when the game won Game of the Year (and other awards as well) at the 2015 Game Awards, it was difficult to be surprised at what it managed to accomplish and deliver.

Although almost five years have passed since the game’s release, loyal fans still play the game. Especially those who own a Nintendo Switch, because The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt came out recently for the console. However, recent sales for the game have generally skyrocketed, and its all thanks to the Netflix show that boosted the game’s popularity.

The information comes from a report by The NPD Group, in which it states how dramatically the Netflix show helped boost the game’s (and The Witcher in general) popularity. To be more specific, when compared to December 2018, December 2019 saw a massive 554 percent increase in sales for physical copies of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt across all platforms. Also, considering the fact that the game is available for PC and current generation consoles, such high sale numbers are very impressive.

It’s also important to consider other factors into the sales increase. People may not have heard of The Witcher prior to the Netflix show, they may have played the game originally but abandoned it, only to have the Netflix show reignite their interest. Some may have heard of the game, but never really cared to try it out before the Netflix show convinced them. When combing all of these factors together (and other possible ones as well), it’s fair to say that the Netflix show really helped out the series.

The video game wasn’t the only aspect of the series that saw an increase in sales. After the debut of the Netflix show, physical book revenue within the United States saw a 562 percent higher increase than during the same period in 2018. In other words, the video game wasn’t the only form of entertainment to have received a boost in sales, because the books (which is where The Witcher stories originally started) also had an increase in sales.

Ultimately, The Witcher is a very hot topic in today’s pop culture with everyone talking about it.
