Though Wattson arrived in- game last month, Respawn appears to be working on a new competitor for the battle royale Apex Legends. A developer from the studio, Tina Sanchez, tweeted a photo of herself dressed in a mo-cap suit wielding what looks like a cane, and tagged two animators at Respawn as well (via Dot Esports).
Crypto, or Talchum, is shown on one of the frayed banners around Kings Canyon; he looks like a ronin, albeit a techy futuristic one suited to the world of Apex Legends. The Season 2 emblem has lightning bolts around its edge, and upon closer inspection, a sword behind its shield. Lightning bolts allude to Wattson, of course, so maybe there is merit in assuming that the sword is a clue to another character. Crypto carries such a melee weapon on his back, and the data miner Dremurer found a file named, ‘DEATH_SWORD.’
This could be a look behind the curtain on Respawn’s continual development for Apex, but fans reckon Sanchez is alluding to the addition of Crypto. Their speculation combined with the concrete announcement of a new content update very soon could mean that a new legend is on the horizon.

In the photos, Sanchez does hold a cane, which could be a placeholder for a sword. In any event, we won’t know for certain until the hotly anticipated feature update rolls out.
Apex Legends is out now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
