Bioware is doing a much better job releasing new content for its epic fantasy role-playing game, Dragon Age: Origins, than it did for Mass Effect. Players have already been treated to two downloadable adventures since the game’s release in November, and now a third, Return to Ostagar, is set to release on January 5, 2010, for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
In this add-on, you will seek vengeance against the Darkspawn for the deaths of King Cailan and your Grey Warden mentor, Duncan. The new content will allow you to recover King Cailan’s arms and armor, and, if you missed your chance on the first go-round, to obtain the trusty Mabari War Hound as a party member:
The cost of the downloadable content is $4.99 on all three systems and will be accessible after you leave the town of Lothering.
King Cailan Theirin inherited a Ferelden at peace, and it frustrated him immensely. His father, beloved King Maric, had become a legend in his own lifetime, defeating the Orlesians to gain independence for the nation. To Cailan, that was the proper role of a king—rallying people against a common enemy. But he also believed his father’s success had deprived him of the opportunity for greatness—Cailan’s Ferelden was cursed by stability.
And so it was that young King Cailan, hungry for glory and eager to emulate the ancient legends, committed the armies of Ferelden to face the darkspawn at the earliest sign of the Blight. He took counsel from Grey Wardens, and bolstered his forces with foreign troops, even inviting soldiers from hated Orlais. This angered many who had served under Maric, but Cailan had no interest in their quaint national prejudices; the darkspawn and their archdemon master—these were threats worthy of a soon-to-be legendary king.
Whatever the reasons, Cailan and the Grey Wardens stood for Ferelden against the darkspawn. It should have been a decisive victory, but they were abandoned to face the horde alone.
Return to fallen Ostagar, discover the fate of a king, and reveal the true cost of betrayal.
Dragon Age: Origins - Return to Ostagar releases January 5, 2010, for the PC and Xbox 360 platforms and a later date in January for the PS3.
