Brimstone Sands Expansion Is Live! Here’s A Patch Notes Breakdown

Brimstone Sands is now live in New World! The update brings a brand-new revamped starting experience, a new level 60+ zone (Brimstone Sands itself), a new weapon, the Great Sword, and a massive host of other tweaks and changes. Here are some of the key highlights from the patch notes.

There are so many more tweaks and changes to look at for yourself - the patch notes are huge! - so if you want to read the rest, head over to the official website to get more info.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of jumping into New World for the first time, or as a returning player.

Is Worth Buying New World In 2022?

We’ve stayed in the know with New World over the past year, and a lot has changed. The game has been packed full of QoL changes - the new seriously reduced fast travel costs and storage improvements are so much better than they used to - and new content in the form of expeditions. The endgame gear grind has been vastly improved by the Gypsum and Expertise sytems, too. It’s the best time yet to revisit the game.

Do You Need A Subscription To Play New World?

No, you don’t need a subscription to play New World. You just need to make a single one-time purchase to own the game and play it.

Is New World On Xbox or PlayStation?

New World is currently not available on Xbox or PlayStation.

Is New World a survival game?

Technically no, although the game boasts an extremely robust crafting system that does share similarities with large, open-world survival games. New World is an MMORPG with a focus on PvP. You don’t need to eat, sleep, or drink to survive.

Is New World an open-world game?

Yes. The world of Aeternum, the setting for New World, is huge. It’s currently only explorable on foot or via fast traveling.

Are there classes in New World?

New World has no classes. It has a classless leveling system where weapon mastery and attributes are earned by using a weapon, such as the Fire Staff or Hatchet. You can still build your own classes (like a Healer, or a PvP build) but these are not restricted. You can spec and re-spec by using some in-game currency.

Are there microtransactions in New World?

Yes, there are microtransactions in New World, although the store is completely cosmetic. At least, for now. There were rumors that there would be paid boosts to the game, but the developers have addressed these problems by saying that the microtransactions will only be cosmetic. Only time will tell how true this is.

Mounts Confirmed!

Yes, Mounts are coming to New World. This was confirmed by the team in the recent dev stream. We know nothing more at this time, except they are quite early on in the design phase.

Fresh-Start Servers - When?

Soon! That’s all we know so far, but we do expect that the fresh start servers will go live in October alongside or just before the Brimstone Sands patch.

Endgame Raids

Yes, the game will be getting much harder endgame PvE to balance out the fact that the majority of endgame gear is considered BiS for PvP. This means 10-20 player raids.

More Solo Content

Alongside the future raids, there will also be more content that can be enjoyed as a solo player. Apparently there is an area in Brimstone Sands that is an example of this.

Recent New World News

Brimstone Sands is now live, here is our recent coverage of the game and its expansion.

Getting Started In New World

New World is a huge MMO. Alongside the new Brimstone Sands content expansion, the first 25 levels have received a total revamp. We will cover that in-depth when the expansion goes live. For now, here’s a look at some of our beginner guides.

New World Leveling Guides

New World is designed around leveling a character to 60 so you can begin the endgame Gypsum and Expertise grind. Leveling has never been easier.

Faction Guides

Factions are important part of the New World experience, both as how you represent your character, but also how your character will interact with the world. Wars, faction warfare, leveling up the settlements - these are all something you can do alongside your faction and company.

Housing And Storage Tips

Housing and Storage are crucial elements of the game. Your house can be used as a free fast travel point, a place where you can place your important trophies for extra luck, damage, and other boosts, and also where you can place extra storage for all your materials and gear.

New World Build Guides

There are a variety of different weapons in New World, ranging from the powerful Void Gauntlet for a support build, to the Great Axe for PvP. These builds are typically put together with two weapons that complement each other. This area of the guide provides an overview of each weapon and some sample builds for you to try.

Class Builds

Although New World’s weapon and leveling system are not tied to a specific class, there are still your typical MMO playstyles, like Tanks and Healers, that are incredibly important for PvP and PvE content.

Resource Gathering And Crafting

New World’s crafting system is complex, but not too difficult to get to grips with thanks to the game’s clean UI. First, you have to gather resources, then refine them, and finally, you can craft various items, like weapons, armor, and potions. Here is our crafting guide and various popular resource locations.

Resource Location Guides

Here’s a quick look at where you can find the best routes to farm for various resources in the game.

Expedition Guides

There are multiple Expeditions in New World, these act as the game’s dungeons. You can run 25 ordinary dungeons a day and 25 mutated dungeons every week.
