The Nintendo NX could be priced even cheaper than the vast majority of people expect, a new report has claimed.
Following up on a report from yesterday, which claimed that the NX will be a portable console capable of being attached to a TV, MCV now says that it has heard that the console is “going to be cheaper than even the vast majority expect”.
“This is a machine that is targeting the mass market, and Nintendo certainly plans for it to have a mass market price,” the site says. “Price is one Wii U mistake Nintendo is determined not to repeat. This could be NX’s single biggest win.”
Nintendo saw huge success with its relatively cheap Wii, which launched in 2006 for £179. It struggled, however, to achieve momentum with its successor, the more expensive Wii U, which launched in 2012 for £229. A more expensive Premium unit was also available for £279.
MCV also claims to have spoken to one person “with hands-on experience with the machine”, who describes the console as feeling “like a bit of a novelty”. Further details were not revealed.
NX is due to go on sale in March 2017 with a reveal rumoured for this September.
