Families attending a showing of the blockbuster hit Frozen II were treated to more than just powerful belted high notes from Idina Menzel and adorably funny lines from Josh Gad. At the end of a recent movie screening of the record-breaking animated movie in Moscow, parents and children were all gifted a free Nintendo Switch console as part of a giveaway from Nintendo Russia.
The event was hosted thanks to a collaboration between Nintendo Russia, Rambler Group (a popular Russian search engine and web portal), and United Cinema Chain “KINO OKKO” (the biggest cinema chain in Russia). The official YouTube channel for Nintendo Russia posted a video to their channel yesterday with footage from the event that showcased staff members excitedly loading in and preparing boxes of the Nintendo merchandise, and the unsuspecting families filing into a seemingly normal movie screening.
At the end of the movie, each family was asked to remain in their seats. As the lights went up, representatives from Nintendo Russia came out to announce that every family would be going home with an exclusive Nintendo gift package. The package included a Nintendo Switch console and a copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the current best-selling game for the console.
Fans received their goodies in Mario-themed gift bags, while costumed cast members dressed up as Mario and Luigi stood by, ready for hugs and photos.
Both parents and children appeared to be very excited and overjoyed throughout the giveaway event.
The news comes just about a month after Nintendo Russia made headlines due to an unfortunate outburst from their CEO during a live stream. While showcasing the abovementioned Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in an official company live stream, Nintendo Russia CEO Yasha Haddaji lost his temper and screaming at his staff. Though the audio quality of the original video was not great, many were able to pick up on Haddaji’s numerous f-bombs and other foul language expletives. People had already been hoping to find a replacement for Haddaji, but the news of his outburst only exacerbated that hope.
Luckily, it appears Nintendo Russia will be ending things on a good note this year, thanks to this unlikely, but wholesome, pairing between Disney’s queen of ice and Nintendo’s man with a mustache.
