Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has shot himself in the foot with comments relating to a new Samus Aran Metroid game.
Asked by Kotaku why Nintendo didn’t acknowledge fans who are desperate for a new Samus game – who instead were shown the poorly received Metroid Prime: Federation Force for 3DS – Fils-Aime said the firm is well aware demand exists.
“Look, we know that the fans want a straight Samus Aran game.”
What comes next is where Fils-Aime made his blunder.
“We also know that the best way to launch a game like that is to surprise and delight them, to give them a launch date, in an environment like this let them play it vs. what other companies do which is to announce a project that you may not see for five, six years. It’s just not the way we do things.”
Hang on a minute, Reggie. A new Legend of Zelda game for Wii U was announced way back in January 2013 and not only is it not out yet, but it was actually a no-show at E3.
Perhaps Nintendo should take a look at its own practises before criticising others for doing the very same thing.
