Nintendo Switch may have gotten off to a middling start here in the UK, selling 80,000 units, but over in the US the system has been flying off the shelves.
According to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, speaking to New York Times reporter Nick Wingfield, Switch sales for the Friday and Saturday of the launch exceeded the first two day sales in the Americas for any system in Nintendo history.
The next biggest launch is the Wii. Nintendo didn’t report two-day figures for Wii, instead reporting an eight day total of 600,000 units.

Wingfield notes that this is even more impressive given Switch launched in March, not the prime holiday season during which Wii arrived.
The reporter was also told that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the best selling standalone launch title in Nintendo history, outpacing Super Mario 64.
Japanese figures are also coming in, with Famitsu stating Switch sold 313,700 units, which is approximately in-line with the Wii U’s 308,600 and PS4’s 322,100 units. Wii sold 371,900 units.
