In years past, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft all offered the ability to download digital versions of top games straight from the digital store to the console itself — no physical copy required. These days, these brands have gone as far as to create digital consoles that couldn’t even take physical copies if players wanted to insert one.

The Nintendo Switch has no digital version, but the Nintendo Switch eShop is nonetheless a dependable source for players to find the top games of the month. Looking at the Nintendo Switch eShop charts is a great way to find out which games are the most popular.
So, looking for a good gift for a Nintendo gamer in your life? Or are you merely looking for the next Switch game you should play? The Nintendo Switch eShop charts show off the best of the best the console currently has to offer.
This is true of both digital versions of physical games and digital-only games that can only be downloaded from the eShop. We’ve compiled the top 30 titles from both the Nintendo Switch eShop charts below (along with the download-only charts, as well). Additionally, we’ve provided an in-depth look at the top 10 games on the Nintendo Switch eShop charts.
The Top 10 Games on the Nintendo Switch eShop Charts: 12/03/2022
From new releases in classic franchises to old favorites that continue to see success, these are the top 10 games on the Nintendo Switch eShop charts for the month of December. We’ll dive deeper into the top 30 below, but for now, let’s go deep on these 10 most popular downloads this month.
1. Pokémon Violet
Serving as the first entry in the ninth generation of Pokémon games, Pokémon Violet is groundbreaking for the franchise. Its open-world environment has never been seen before in a previous mainline Pokémon installment. (In fact, the concept only recently hit the franchise with Pokémon Legends: Arceus earlier in 2022.)

This partially explains why the game would top the Nintendo Switch eShop charts, but it’s about more than its novelty. It’s also a great game in its own right that introduces over 100 new Pokémon to collect and battle.
2. Pokémon Scarlet
As with other Pokémon video games, Pokémon Scarlet was released simultaneously with its sister game, Pokémon Violet. Like its Violet counterpart, Scarlet brings over 100 never-before-seen Pokémon to the franchise, along with four new regional forms and the brand-new Tera Type Pokémon.

Its open-world nature has been hugely appealing for Pokémon fans and newbies alike, which explains why both Pokémon Scarlet and Violet would top the charts together — side by side. They currently serve as the best-selling console-exclusive game launches in history.
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
It might seem surprising to see a five-year-old game in the number three spot on the Nintendo Switch eShop charts. This is no ordinary game, though. This is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Not only the Nintendo Switch’s best-selling game, but also one of the best-selling video games in history.

It helps that the game has recently announced a number of new tracks set to be released semi-annually. This is a huge draw for those who may have grown tired of the game after all these years. It also might explain why the game continues to hold a spot in the top 10.
4. Mario Party Superstars
The Mario Party franchise has been enduringly popular since the first game’s release back in 1998. Mario Party Superstars, the latest in the long-running series, sits comfortably in the number four spot on the Nintendo Switch eShop charts. (Even though it was released well over a year ago.)

While it might not be as new or innovative as some might’ve hoped, it’s nevertheless a very popular Switch title.
5. Just Dance 2023 Edition
Even though you can play Just Dance 2023 Edition on all the top consoles, perhaps no other console is better suited for the game than the Nintendo Switch.
Reliant on players to move and shake and dance along with the on-screen routines in tune with the top hits from yesterday and today, the Just Dance games are always a hit on Nintendo consoles for the way they incorporate movement into their controls. Just Dance 2023 Edition‘s spot at number five on the Nintendo Switch eShop charts proves this to be true.
6. Inside
Everybody loves a good puzzle challenge, as evidenced by Inside‘s spot at number six on the Nintendo Switch eShop charts this month. Inside is available across several different consoles and platforms, but it’s best suited for the Switch’s innovative controls.
The game follows a boy living in a dystopian world, tasked with solving puzzles in his environment; all while avoiding threats and even death. Fun fact: it’s actually a sequel to another popular puzzle platformer called emLimbo/em, which first hit the Xbox 360 back in 2010.
7. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Super Mario 3D World was a hit when it hit the Nintendo Wii U back in 2013. Unfortunately, though, not every Mario fan got to play it because they never bought a Wii U. Thankfully, this Switch port of the game (coupled with a new game called Bowser’s Fury) finally gives them a chance to play it.

Described by fans as a hybrid between Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario Odyssey, Bowser’s Fury makes sense as an add-on for the former because of its similar look, feel, and gameplay. The game’s two-for-one marketing no doubt explains its place at number seven on the Nintendo Switch eShop charts.
8. FIFA 23 Legacy Edition
Have you been watching any World Cup games? What about playing your own version? Given the success and popularity of this year’s World Cup, it’s not surprising to see FIFA 23 Legacy Edition on the Nintendo Switch eShop charts.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the international version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or…It will also feature the addition of top women’s club teams and some of the world’s most famous stadiums, including brand new ones.FIFA 23 Legacy Edition includes an updated visual identity and a refreshed broadcast overlay package.Gameplay features and modes will have parity with FIFA 22 on Nintendo Switch and will feature the same gameplay from FIFA 22 Legacy Edition without any new development or significant enhancements.EA SPORTS FIFA 23 Legacy Edition on Nintendo Switch features the latest kits, clubs, and squads from some of the top leagues of the world.
When you can’t get enough of the soccer matches on television, Switch gamers are not wrong for wanting to keep that energy up by turning on the latest FIFA game and playing a couple of matches. Not to mention the fact that the game is a new release, with less than a few months passing since its September release.
9. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2
Harry Potter, Star Wars, The Hobbit, Indiana Jones… if it’s been a big, popular franchise, odds are there’s a great LEGO game to go along with it. This is the case for LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, a follow-up to the first LEGO Marvel Super Heroes game from 2013 that draws from everyone’s favorite Marvel heroes (and villains) to tell an MCU-inspired original story.
- LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 features an expanded line-up of iconic Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains from different eras and realities, including Guardians of the Galaxy characters, Groot, Rocket…
The game was released way back in 2017, but it continues to see plenty of downloads on the Nintendo Switch eShop charts more than five years later. It’s a testament to the sheer popularity of comic book movies today.
10. Nintendo Switch Sports
If you’ve ever played a Wii Sports game, then you know why Nintendo Switch Sports would be so popular. It’s a worthy continuation of the same sports-loving universe of Miis that began in 2006 and continued in Wii Sports Resort (2009) and Wii Sports Club (2013).
