Amiibo were Nintendo’s attempt at the toys-to-life craze. While the genre is beginning to end out, with Skylanders on a decline, and LEGO Dimensions and Disney Infinity both out of the game, it’s shocking to see that the Big N is still making those little figures to this day.

The major difference is that Amiibo were designed more with collectors in mind. They have minor compatibility with a few different games, but nothing that would cause to immediately fork over 13 dollars to grab one. It’s more to add popular characters to your shelf and show off how much you love Nintendo’s legacy.

That said, not all Amiibo are created equally. There are some that have such a high level of detail and care that it’s hard not to love them. There are others that just make you sit there and scratch your head wondering why they were made and how they were done so poorly. That said, Nintendo is probably going to rake in the cash on those little figures either way, considering that their characters are the source of so much nostalgia for gamers across the planet.

If you’re a collector and are wanting to add some more Amiibo to your display, then you may want to consider reading on for the 15 weirdest Amiibo and the 15 best. To be clear, we won’t necessarily be focusing on Amiibo that are bad. The idea is to highlight ones that are really weird when you stop and think about them.

30 Weird: Villager

Villager isn’t a weird Amiibo by design. Being a character in Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS, he was bound to get an Amiibo.

What makes him weird is that, first off, the printing on his face just seems not right.

The second reason is partially due to the fact that Villager looks like a downright axe villain with those beady eyes and that “happy” pose. Fun fact: he was actually one of the hardest Amiibo to find when he came out.

29 Best: Guardian

Easily the best of the Breath of the Wild series, the Guardian is a massive and unique Amiibo. Being a posable figure, its legs are made out of a material that can flex in any direction that you want them too. Furthermore, the Guardian was appropriately made bigger than the average Amiibo, giving it a proper sense of scale when put up against the rest of the case. It also some great detailing and gives out Ancient Arrows when scanned in the game.

28 Weird: Peach

Peach isn’t on this list for her standard design. It’s instead the factory defects that have given her this spot. There were a few Peach Amiibo that shipped without their legs, leading some to regard them as “high value.”

Those Peach Amiibo ended up going on eBay for thousands of dollars.

You read that right. A $13 figurine exponentially increased in value when it was missing parts that should’ve been included. If you want a defect so badly, cut your Peach Amiibo’s legs off.

27 Best: Mr. Game And Watch

There was a lot of talk about what a Mr. Game and Watch Amiibo would look like, but Nintendo really knocked it out of the park. Made out of a plastic that makes the little guy flat, he looks as authentic as you’d expect.

What’s even better is the fact that it comes with three other poses that can be swapped out at any time.

The Game and Watch Amiibo also comes in a 3-pack featuring ROB and Duck Hunt as well, which are both nice figures to have, so it’s easily a win win situation.

26 Weird: Super Mario Cereal

This is one is easily one of the strangest Amiibo to date. In honor of Super Mario Odyssey, Nintendo decided to release a Super Mario Cereal to various retail stores. The catch was that a portion of the box was actually an Amiibo that worked with the aforementioned game. Of course, this led to dozens of scalpers rushing to their local Wal-Mart to buy boxes of this cereal to sell online for ridiculously high prices. The Amiibo didn’t even do that much in the game.

25 Best: Yarn Yoshi

When Nintendo first unveiled the series of Yarn Yoshi Amiibo for Yoshi’s Woolly World, fans around the world shouted in delight. These were some of the most well-designed, authentic Amiibo to date.

The fact that they were made out of fabric rather than plastic just made it all the sweeter.

While they didn’t offer much functionality in the game, collecting a green, pink, and blue Yarn Yoshi Amiibo was an extremely fun task. No one cared about what they did because they looked so good.

Link is one of Nintendo’s most popular characters, so it’s strange why his first Amiibo was one of the most awkward-looking ones. When it was first unveiled, it looked slick and properly showed the Hero of Twilight in action. Unfortunately, the final release had an ugly colored stand for him to rest on and a face that wasn’t properly sculpted or painted. He became infamous for how weirdly he was designed and he was certainly the least interesting of the first Amiibo wave.

23 Best: Shovel Knight

When Yacht Club Games unveiled their Shovel Knight Amiibo, the crowds went wild. It was a solid, well-crafted figure that oozed personality from head to shovel tip.

The figure was complete with his own logo on the stand as well.

On top of that, the Shovel Knight Amiibo had one of the best functionalities of any figure to date, allowing you to create a custom knight in Shovel Knight as well as unlock the co-op mode so you can play with a friend.

22 Weird: Mega Yarn Yoshi

We love Mega Yarn Yoshi. Seeing such a big Yoshi plush is cool. However, when you remember that this is still an Amiibo, it starts to make a lot less sense. Made in honor of Yoshi’s Woolly World, this is the largest Amiibo to date and retails for $40. That being said, it doesn’t offer much in the game (certainly nothing worth the price tag). It makes us wonder why Nintendo wouldn’t just make it a standalone plush and not go through all of the effort of putting an NFC chip in its foot.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD brought with it a new Wolf Link Amiibo. This was a large figure featuring Wolf Link and Midna riding on top of him.

There was so much detail with this figure that it prompted many fans to go out and buy the game just to have it.

The Wolf Link Amiibo also unlocked a new trail cave in the game and, if scanned in Breath of the Wild, would appear as a companion for Link. This was a figure made for Zelda fans.

20 Weird: Solaire Of Astora

If someone told us that Dark Souls would be getting an Amiibo, we would’ve slapped you and called you crazy. However, it’s happening, but the choice is so bizarre. The Solaire of Astora complete with his “praise the sun” pose is getting an Amiibo. Just stop and think about it for a second. Nintendo is allowing an Amiibo to be produced that is based on a meme. What does it do in the game, you ask? Lets your character praise the sun. That’s it.

19 Best: Metroid

The Metroid: Samus Returns Amiibo were a little pricey, but well-designed. Samus in her new pose was great, but it was the Metroid Amiibo that really caught the eye of the public.

Not only did it look perfect, but the head was also made of rubber, giving it that small touch of added authenticity to make it an excellent figure.

Metroid fans were sure to get their hands on both of those figures when they released in a 2-pack along with the 3DS game.

18 Weird: Wii Fit Trainer

It’s not just the Wii Fit Trainer Amiibo that deserves to be on this list. It’s the fact that Wii Fit Trainer was put in Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS in the first place. Her exercise moves are just so off the wall that no one expected her to be in Smash. What makes it even weirder is that, when Wii Fit Trainer was released, she was one of the rarest Amiibo on the entire planet, being a member of a small circle called the “Holy Trinity.”

17 Best: Pikmin

The Olimar Amiibo wasn’t much to write home about. However, the Pikmin franchise would get their perfect Amiibo when Hey Pikmin! Released on the 3DS. This Amiibo featured all of your favorite Pikmin all gathered on a rock lounging together.

Each one had its own personality and the detailed rock tied it all together extremely well.

It was exactly the kind of Amiibo that fans of Pikmin expected. It’s unfortunate that it dropped along with a game that had a lukewarm reception.

16 Weird: Ness

Don’t get us wrong. Ness is a character that deserves an Amiibo. Being part of the Earthbound series and a member of Super Smash Bros since the very beginning, him getting a figure is only right. However, there is something seriously off when you look at his face. Whether it be that the features aren’t distanced properly or they’re not the right sizes, something just looks off when you stare at his face. Perhaps it’s the lack of pupils. Lucas looks fine, though.

15 Best: Inklings (Splatoon 2)

When Splatoon released, Nintendo promoted it by releasing Amiibo that would allow players to unlock special gear. They were nice Amiibo that had great functionality. For Splatoon 2, a new line of Amiibo was introduced that did more of the same, but with one big difference: the figures were much more detailed. Displayed with ink flying everywhere, having action poses, and had plenty of standout accessories, these were the proper Inkling Amiibo that fans deserved.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of Nintendo’s biggest games to date and their massive launch title for the Nintendo Switch, so it makes sense that they’d release some Amiibo to go along with the game.

Most of them look pretty good, then there’s Rider Link.

Riding on a horse while wearing a hood, what’s weird about this Amiibo is the fact that he has no face printed underneath the hood, leaving his head completely smooth.

13 Best: Cloud (Player 2)

The fact that Cloud Strife is in Super Smash Bros and has two different Amiibo is insane. Of the two of them, we’d have to tip our hats to the Player 2 version. Based on the Advent Children design, this is a Cloud figure that captures the attitude perfectly. With great details on the Buster Sword, black jacket, and hair, there’s no denying that this is the better of the two figures. Not that the traditional one is bad, but the Player 2 one is better.

12 Weird: Detective Pikachu

Detective Pikachu as a concept is really weird. It’s a sleuth game where you team up with a Pikachu that talks like a full-grown man. To make things even stranger is that Nintendo made an Amiibo for the character. That’s not all though. For some reason, the Detective Pikachu Amiibo is significantly larger than a standard Amiibo. Why is it bigger? No one really knows for sure. Nintendo just guaranteed that it would look out of place on any display, though.

Link has a ton of Amiibo and that’s because Zelda fans will never stop throwing money to get more. One of the better ones is easily the Majora’s Mask version. It was the first proper Young Link Amiibo that we got, but he was also given a mask to hold close to his face, which perfectly captures the feeling of the game. If scanned into Breath of the Wild, it also unlocked the Fierce Deity Armor, which was a brilliant homage to those that wanted a trip down memory lane.
