Video game buyers for UK retailers have said Nintendo’s NX must be priced under £200 if it is to succeed.
MCV says it surveyed an unspecified number of UK retailers, all of which said a launch price below £200 was ‘essential’.
“The games industry sorely misses a strong Nintendo,” said one major buyer. “If the NX reports are true, I’m optimistic. But only if the machine is significantly cheaper than PS4 and Xbox One.”
“NX could be exactly what the market needs. A £150 to £200 price point would guarantee a far stronger start than either the Wii U or 3DS,” said another retailer.
Nintendo has so far remained tight lipped about the NX, only confirming plans for a worldwide March 2017 launch. Rumours indicate the system will be a handheld which also connects to a TV, offering performance somewhere between PS3 and PS4.
It’s expected that Zelda, Pokemon and Mario games will be available within six months of launch.
