Update: Oculus founder Palmer Luckey has said that the Oculus announcement set for The Game Awards will not be related to the device’s release date or pre-orders.
“Really cool announcement happening at The Game Awards! (Not preorders opening),” he Tweeted.
It seems likely then, that the announcement will be in relation to a specific game with Oculus support.
Original report: Look out for a “special announcement” from Oculus at The Game Awards in the early hours of Friday morning, the event’s host and producer Geoff Keighley has revealed.
“Don’t miss @thegameawards for a special announcement from @oculus founder @PalmerLuckey,” he Tweeted.
The tweet was accompanied by a trailer for the show which highlights all the confirmed world premieres so far, including Far Cry Primal, Quantum Break and a new Mortal Kombat character.
You can watch The Game Awards on YouTube Gaming and various console platforms from 2am on Friday morning.
Perhaps the “special announcement” will be an Oculus Rift release date.
