Olivia Munn will be hosting the launch event and celebrity tournament for Lost Planet 2 in Los Angeles on May 6th. The fused celebrity and community tournament is the final stage of Capcom’s “Kill Big for Charity” campaign where online gamers were asked to download the latest Lost Planet 2 multi-player demo from Xbox Live and the Playstation Network. Partnering with Music for Relief, Capcom plans to donate $25,000 to charity if the demo hits 1.5 million downloads. The May 6th tournament comprised of celebrities, press, community and super fans will compete in a variety of Lost Planet 2 multiplayer modes. The winning team will have the honor of choosing the charity that receives the donation from a list of Music for Relief partnerships.

Capcom Community members can compete for a seat in the tournament by submitting their best tips and tricks for beating the Lost Planet 2 multiplayer demo by this Thursday to Capcom Unity (click here). Four winners will be chosen. Lost Planet and Capcom fans living in the Los Angeles area are encouraged to attend the event, which runs from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Even if the goal of 1.5 million downloads isn’t met, Capcom will still donate $20,000 for the first one million Lost Planet 2 multiplayer demos downloaded from March 31st through midnight (PST) on May 5th. Once the demo passes the millionth mark across both platforms, an additional $5,000 will be donated when an extra 500,000 downloads is achieved.

So to keep it simple…

1 million downloads = $20,000 donation

and

1.5 million downloads = $25,000 donation

So when your parents or significant other is yelling at you for playing the demo, you can proudly respond, “Hey, I’m doing this for charity.”

Lost Planet 2 releases on May 11, 2010, for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
