More than 52 million amiibo figures and amiibo cards have been shipped worldwide as of December 31, 2015, Nintendo has announced.
Approximately 31 million figures have shipped worldwide since November 2014, with a record 9.9 million shipping in the October to December quarter. Additionally, amiibo cards have shipped approximately 21.5 million units since their launch in July 2015, with a massive 12.9 million shipping in the holiday quarter.
Nintendo believes amiibo can be a year round seller.
“amiibo can be purchased steadily regardless of seasonality with its affordable price compared to packaged software, and we were able to bring out its potential and sell even more in this year-end sales season,” Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima told investors. “We think all Nintendo platforms can reap great benefits from the constant presence of Nintendo characters at retail stores.”
