This Sunday sees the North American debut of Nintendo’s much hyped new portable system, the 3DS. The first few titles for the handheld are trickling out this week, so gamers looking to be well stocked on launch day can begin building their collections now. In addition to the first batch of 3DS games, the year of the first person shooter presses on with Crysis 2. For the kids, Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars flies to retail, and for those who would prefer to download games rather than brave the harsh environs of their local retailer, both Swarm and Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime are coming to PSN and XBLA....

Although Netflix’s The Witcher show follows the books quite faithfully, some of the small changes make sense, while others left fans scratching their heads. For example, Jaskier was said to have a big hat with an egret’s feather — and nobody understood why it was scrapped from the show. That is, until showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich explained that the hat looked way too silly and would bring him down to the role of a one-dimensional comic relief character instead of one of Geralt’s oldest and most loyal friends....

Heeellpppppp, the simulation is being weird again! According to a report from Variety, and definitely not a fever-dream you just had last night, Nicolas Cage is set to play “Tiger King” Joe Exotic in a new scripted series. The show is being developed by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios. It does not have a network or streaming entity lined up yet but this is sure to be one of those “competitive situations” you hear so much about....

Ninty confirmed overnight that the Switch has shipped a total of 19.67 million units worldwide since its launch in March 2017. The figure was announced by the Big N during its latest financial report, which covers the period April 1 – June 30, 2018. While the Switch figures continue to remain impressive, it’s worth noting that 3DS is still selling pretty well, with the handheld having now reached just over 72 million shipments globally....

Recently, Nintendo had a UK ruling go in their favor after going to the High Court to seek protection from websites that promote piracy as it relates to the Switch console. According to Eurogamer, Sky, EE, Talk Talk, Virgin Media, and BT will all be made to block or impede access to four websites that enable individuals to circumvent normal procedures when it comes to obtaining games. The court ruled that there was no legal defense to modifying the Switch for the purpose of piracy and sided with Nintendo in its claims of the sites in question being in breach of its trademarks....

Nearly two months have passed since Team Ninja last held a preview test for Nioh 2. In that time, the developer has carefully sifted through all of the feedback it got from players who took part in Nioh 2’s open beta, and this week it went into greater detail on how all that feedback will change the upcoming samurai action game. The first No Man’s Sky update since the day zero patch has been released on PC and PS4, Hello Games has announced. “Patch just out for PC version – Steam and GoG. Patch in submission for PS4 version, should be out very soon,” wrote Hello Games founder Sean Murray. The PS4 patch has since been released. Murray added that “less than one per cent of players have raised support issues” and the studio aims to “resolve roughly 70% of them this week”....

The spaceship-stuffed game No Man’s Sky is continuing its trajectory from shaky launch to really interesting piece of work, with the latest update to the space-exploration experience adding funky biological spaceships into the mixer. The game’s previous big update, No Man’s Sky Beyond, launched in August 2019 and added a multiplayer mode. And now, going live today, a big drop of new content called ‘The Living Ship Update’ is adding a whole new level of lore to the game with a fresh sort of craft....

It looks like Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics cards will work just fine with next-generation PCIe 5.0 PSUs. This news comes from tech site HardwareLuxx, which spotted that the ASUS Thor II 1000W Platinum PSU is compatible with RTX 30 Series Founders Edition cards. The Mortal Kombat franchise has been adapted for the screen since the early days of the franchise, including to attempts to tell the games’ story in animated form. The first animated take was Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins, a tie-in to the first live-action movie, that included weak hand-drawn animations and segments of embarrassingly early CGI. A few years later, we got a season of Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm, a Saturday morning cartoon that acted as a quasi-sequel to the live-action movie....

Mystery Science Theater 3000 is an amazing show. There’s a reason the Kickstarter to bring it back from the abyss was such a success. Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor Nathan Fillion (okay, so he’s done a lot more since Buffy but that’s what I remember him for; he got bisected by Buffy in Season 7) has apparently got something Uncharted lined up for the San Diego Comic-Con next week. Naughty Dog has responded to the “disappointing” proliferation of The Last of Us Part 2 spoilers, and stated that players should not seek out spoilers for themselves or others. NBA 2K20 launched less than a week ago and it is already having a rocky start. Lately, sports games have been notorious for including a large amount of microtransactions, but it seems like the latest installment in the popular basketball franchise has taken things to a whole new level. Fans are expressing their disgust with the game’s microtransactions by review bombing the game on Steam, where at the time of writing it is sitting at an “Overwhelmingly Negative” review score, with only 16% of the reviews being positive....
