More than 1,000 Activision Blizzard employees have signed a letter, sent out today, calling the company’s response to recent allegations “abhorrent and insulting.” The letter follows a lawsuit filed by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing last Tuesday. In the suit, the DFEH accused the company of rampant “frat boy” culture that promoted sexual harassment and discrimination. NetherRealm Studios recently released Patch 1.07 for Mortal Kombat 11, making a sweeping number of changes to the popular fighting game. Almost every character on the roster was tweaked in the patch, with some getting nerfs and others getting buffs. In my review for Mutant Year Zero: Seed of Evil, I mentioned that the expansion had a number of noticeable flaws. One, which completely soured the entire (short) journey, was its final boss. The complex world of heroes and villains that Kohei Horikoshi sets up in My Hero Academia is a compelling one. It takes the worlds of Marvel and DC comics, and spreads the distribution of superpowers to 80% of society. This means that rather than existing within society, superpowers have become society itself. This of course brings up a lot of societal issues that the series uses to flesh out its worldbuilding, and develop its characters....
Naughty Dog has apologised for allowing Assassin’s Creed artwork to be used in yesterday’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Story Trailer. A scene in the trailer showed Nathan Drake looking at a picture on a wall, with the picture in question clearly having been lifted from artworks for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. “In our eagerness to get the story trailer out we made a regrettable mistake and didn’t thoroughly vet the art work used for an in game painting,” reads a statement published by the studio last night....
Ubisoft has teased a new Far Cry game that looks set to adopt a post-apocalyptic and follows on from the events of this year’s Far Cry 5. The video offers a glimpse at what appears to be Hope County’s vast countryside, only for it to be rocked by a nuclear blast. Riot Games recently rolled out another update for its popular FPS, Valorant. Along with the patch came a new weapon skin bundle called Neptune, which hit the store earlier this week. If you remember the aquatic-themed teaser from earlier this month, it now seems as though it was the ‘Neptune’ weapon skin bundle being alluded to. As you can see in the image above, the weapons all appear to have an aquarium-like appearance reminiscent of the ocean and marine life....
The gaming industry has come an incredibly long way over the course of the past two decades or so. It’s hard to fathom that even as recently as the start of this century we thought the graphics exhibited on the PlayStation 1 and Nintendo 64 were cutting edge. Yes, Square Enix has announced a new edition of NieR: Automata, called Game of the YoRHA, which will launch next February. It will arrive with all DLC, pod skins, and fancy accessories. No, the company still hasn’t fixed the damn PC port. Despite being out on PC since March 17, 2017, Square has released only a minor update or two, and to this day the game still suffers from bugs and a lack of proper resolution support....
