Ever since the announcement of Alfred Hitchcock – Vertigo back in 2018, developer Pendulo Studios has refrained from showing much about the game. Pendulo has extensively discussed the game’s direct inspiration, the 1958 film Vertigo. The team also unveiled an abstract trailer as well as a dev diary featuring small snippets of footage two months ago. But aside from that, the developer revealed very little about how the gameplay would function or how the style and cinematography look in-game....

Upcoming F2P Shooter Gets a New Name Nexon America and Splash Damage have changed the name of their upcoming online shooter from Extraction to Dirty Bomb, to better fit the game’s unique personality. The company promises this will “almost definitely” be the last name change before launch. Nexon also has announced it will run dedicated servers for Dirty Bombin North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Developed by UK-based Splash Damage, Dirty Bomb is a competitive multiplayer online first-person shooter, and the first in a new generation of games published by Nexon America....

Nebraska native Niels Larsen made patent history with his invention of calculating machines to aid with taxes and interest.This American inventor also held two other US patents: a candle holder in 1874 and another for a sun-dial in 1884.The device consists of cylinders bearing numbers, the inner cylinder representing hundreds, the middle one tens, and the outer one units. Proper movement of the cylinders reveals the tax or interest of a given sum or amount....

Nintendo has surprised fans who purchased the Nintendo Switch Online service by adding a fourth game to the new titles added to the Nintendo Entertainment System service. Nintendo had previously announced that NES Open Tournament Golf, Solomon’s Key, and Super Dodge Ball were going to be the added games on October 10th. When fans updated the Nintendo Entertainment System service, they discovered that an unannounced fourth game had been added....

Just how good is cloud gaming on Nintendo Switch? The upcoming Kingdom Hearts games on Switch - including 1.5, 2.5, and the latest Kingdom Hearts 3 - are set to be purely cloud-based, with Square-Enix charging $90 for the entire collection or $50 for each individual game. Is the visual quality and input lag good enough to make this work? Does the concept even work for a system designed around take-anywhere portability?...

There are no current plans to release a demo for Just Cause 3 or include a photo mode, Square Enix has confirmed. The publisher revealed new details on the game in a series of updates on Twitter, confirming that a photo mode is “currently not planned for a release”, and that there is “no demo planned”. A demo was released for both previous Just Cause games. Bespoke demos, however, gradually appear to be phased out as publishers instead opt to release time-limited free trial versions....

Today Nvidia Hosted its press conference from CES 2022 in Las Vegas, including new reveals for its lineup of GPUs. We learn that Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 5 are available on Geforce Now starting today. Nvidia Reflex will be available on iRacing, Rainbow 6 Extraction, God of War, Midnight: Ghost Hunt, Grit, Ready or Not, and Super People. Nvidia’s latest batch of GeForce drivers are out, numbered as 385.28, and ready for the release of Volition’s Agents of Mayhem. There’s also support for Crossout, and Tripwire’s Killing Floor: Incursion. Agents of Mayhem is an Nvidia-branded title, so it has a few company specific bells and whistles like “Hybrid Frustum Traced Shadows”, TXAA anti-aliasing, and Nvidia’s Ansel photo tool. During Xbox’s E3 2019 media briefing we got a spanking new trailer showing off CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. Yer man John Wick is in it. Unreal. In the very fancy trailer, we saw protagonist V chatting to another character that was wearing some wonderful sunglasses. Then we saw V hop into a self-driving car, and then his pal got shot, and that’s never nice. The big surprise came at the end of the video when Keanu bloody Reeves showed up!...

ELSPA/GfK-ChartTrack has announced that Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has smashed the UK video games sales record, shifting a massive estimated 1.23 million units and grossing £47 million in one day. The previous record was held by Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto IV which sold an estimated 631,000 units, grossing £27.2 million on its first day of release (April 29, 2008). “These first day sales figures are astonishing and clear evidence that video games are now mainstream in the UK,” commentec Michael Rawlinson, Director General, ELSPA....

Capcom’s wildly successful title Monster Hunter World is getting its first and last major expansion, called Iceborne, later this week. In addition to new gear to craft and monsters to fight, the expansion introduces players to the snowy land of Hoarfrost Reach. This area is roughly the size of the base game and features a brand new story that continues the main storyline forward. To celebrate the impending arrival of the Iceborne expansion, Capcom is giving away free high rank armor to players....

While I love a good epic fantasy read where an unassuming, usually male, usually white farmboy learns of his great destiny to save the world, there are so many fantasy stories that exist outside of that framework. One of my favorite ways to see fantasy genre tropes subverted is by taking the usual feudal European-like setting of the “traditional” epic fantasy saga and throwing it out the window in favor of mythic tropes that are less familiar to western fantasy readers....
