Greetings, Ranters, and a special “hello” to everyone I met at PAX over the weekend. Yes, PAX Prime 2010 has, sadly, come to a close, and what do we have left to fill the void? Tons and tons of games, of course. The first full week of September is practically overflowing with highly anticipated titles. No doubt, a few of these games are hoping to make an impact at retail in advance of the 800 pound gorilla that is Halo: Reach, which will be invading many an Xbox 360 next week....

The Resident Evil 2 Remake was primarily heralded as a success by gamers and critics alike, but it’s been a while since anything new has happened surrounding the game. In the months since the release of the DLC Ghost Survivors, all went quiet and it appeared that Capcom was done with the title. However, that may no longer be the case. Fans paying close attention to Resident Evil 2 on multiple platforms have noticed an odd recent addition that may indicate that something new - possibly DLC - could be on its way for the game....

Today Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games revealed a new video about its growing space simulator. The video focuses on showing progress on three upcoming starships, the Drake Corsair, the Argo SRV, and the Banu Merchantman. On top of that, we also see a prototype of the upcoming Salvage UI for the Vulture and Reclaimer, on top of the implementation of power relays for the Hammerhead, and the UI Card System, which will allow for interesting holographic menus....

While you might not recognize the name, this looter-shooter from publisher Nexon was actually announced a year ago. However, it first was revealed under the name Project Magnum. The most recent thing released on Project Magnum was a teaser trailer last September, but it’s finally time to get to see more of this game as well as the final title: The First Descendant. The game will be free-to-play and is being developed in Unreal Engine 5....

During today’s Q2 Fiscal 2020 earnings call, Electronic Arts revealed that there won’t be a new Battlefield next year; instead, it’ll be releasing a new Battlefield title on both upcoming next-gen consoles, the PS5, and the Xbox Scarlett, during the fiscal year 2022. The latest entry in the franchise, Battlefield 5, arrived almost a year ago from EA DICE, and it’ll be a while before the next entry makes its debut–which is unusual as Battlefield titles go....

Nintendo 3DS’s StreetPass Plaza player limit is increasing from 10 to 100 today, Nintendo has announced. That means you’ll be able to queue up 100 players in your Plaza to use across the various StreetPass mini-games. It sounds as if the feature may be limited to StreetPass Plaza Premium, however, which requires a £4.49 upgrade. If you don’t upgrade, you may still be stuck with the existing 10 limit. “Previously, you could only encounter up to 10 players via the StreetPass feature,” Nintendo explains....

Nintendo hacker group boss Max Louarn has been interviewed on his company’s activities, following the 40-month prison sentence handed down to colleague Gary Bowser. Bowser remains the only member of Louarn’s company Team Xecuter to be arrested, deported and now imprisoned in the US, for his part in the group’s sale of console mod devices that allowed people to play pirated games. Louarn, a French citizen, meanwhile lives in Avignon and was recently interviewed by Le Monde (paywall), via TorrentFreak....

Update, 4:48PM, August 29: Nintendo UK has confirmed that Miiverse will close down at 6AM BST, November 8. Nintendo of America has confirmed that the service will cease from 10PM PT, November 7. Here’s a thing that’s happening: Nissan has announced plans to turn one of its cars into a controller capable of playing PES 2016. Yep, a Nissan Qashqai capable of interfacing with a PlayStation to control Konami’s new football game. I’ve no idea why you’d ever want to play PES 2016 with a car. In fact, you’d think a car would be far better suited to, you know, a driving game. But there you go....

The embargo lifts today on Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4090 and it’s a phenomenal achievement in graphics performance - as you might hope and expect from a $1600/£1650 GPU. The full Eurogamer review will follow as soon as possible but so much work in Digital Foundry has been poured into this project that we’ve only just managed to finish the video review in time.
