Netflix has announced a Dragon Age animated series, which will debut on the streaming service this December. Dragon Age: Absolution is set in Tevinter, which fans of BioWare’s role-playing game series will know is the setting for the franchise’s upcoming blockbuster RPG Dragon Age Dreadwolf. Absolution will feature a fresh cast of faces starring in a story steeped with BioWare lore: expect mages, Qunari, Red Templars, demons and “other special surprises”....

We haven’t even seen Geralt of Rivia’s exploits on television yet, and already Netflix can’t get enough of it. News broke out on the company’s official Twitter account earlier today, confirming that The Witcher will get a second season. Netflix’s The Witcher is an adaptation that homes in on its horror elements rather than the fantasy features of the book series, as stated in an interview with SFX magazine (via games radar). Visual effects supervisor Julian Parry explained exactly what that means for the look of the show. ‘I definitely think it leans more towards horror,’ he said. ‘We’re definitely taking the fantasy out. I can honestly say we’re not fantastical....

Although gamers have been shown an extended gameplay sequence and received first looks at the game’s villain, there continue to be certain elements of Uncharted 3 that Naughty Dog has yet to comment on. Luckily, some new details have popped up, just before gamers forgot about the adventurous Nathan Drake, that remind gamers this should be one of your most anticipated titles of 2011. Considering the immense challenges that come with game development, one-man projects never fail to impress. Solo-developing a relatively simple project, such as a pixel-art game, already demands considerable effort and resources. Doing so for a project that looks like a AAA product, however, requires an almost herculean level of talent and dedication. This intimidating prospect has not stopped developer Xiancheng Zeng from creating Bright Memory Infinite, a visually striking first-person shooter that utilizes the most up-to-date tech, all by himself....

A new Evercade handheld console will be released this winter: the Evercade EXP. Iterating on the previous handheld, the slick white Evercade EXP features a faster processor on par with its home console equivalent Evercade VS, as well as a higher resolution screen, built-in WiFi, and a new pair of triggers. In addition, Tate Mode will allow players to rotate the handheld for vertical play - the screen has been designed for this and the console includes extra buttons to accommodate the change in orientation....

The streamer continues to claim that its set up to churn out content through the rest of the year despite the coronavirus pandemic freeze on TV and movie production. Niantic has released a new ad for Pokémon GO’s incoming Buddy Adventure featuring a Squirtle so cute we want it to have all the berries it could ever want. Pokémon GO will turn four during the summer of 2020, and in terms of its popularity the game shows no signs of slowing down. NieR: Automata director Yoko Taro isn’t always relatable—he almost always appears in public wearing a mask, after all—but a recent Tweet has revealed that the lauded game director may indeed be one of us. Twitter account @OfficialV tweeted at Taro with a screencap of an article claiming that NieR: Automata was nearly cancelled due to Taro hating having to wake up early, asking him if that was indeed the case. A simple response of “True” from Taro set Twitter on fire, and understandably so, as it’s not every day a preeminent video game genius reveals himself to be deeply flawed and unapologetically human....

Reports have emerged claiming that Nintendo is working on a sequel to Switch minigame compilation launch title 1-2-Switch. The report comes via Fanbyte, who say the news comes from “multiple sources with knowledge of the product in question”. According to them, the follow-up had the working title of Everybody’s 1-2-Switch. Apparently, inspiration for the sequel would come from the Jackbox Party Pack series of minigames. If you’re somehow not familiar, this is an ongoing annual series of party minigames that include titles like Fibbage and Quiplash....

Nintendo has announced that players of free Nintendo Switch fitness game Jump Rope Challenge have clocked in over 2.5 billion total jumps and as a result have decided not to remove it from the eShop at the end of this month as originally planned. The game was originally made by a small collective of Nintendo employees as Japan as part of Nintendo’s efforts to help players cope with lockdown conditions and stay healthy during the early months of the global COVID-19 pandemic, and was supposed to be removed from the Nintendo eShop at the end of September, which would’ve meant it disappearing by the end of today....

National Student Esports has just announced a new partnership with Nintendo UK, who will be sponsoring the inaugural Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament at the next British University Esports Championship and a number of other Smash activities. The British University Esports Championship began just last year, having first taken place in October of 2018. Last year’s event featured over 3,000 players from more than 500 different teams competing in tournaments for Overwatch, League of Legends, Dota 2, CS:GO, Hearthstone and Rocket League....

Nintendo of America big cheese Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed that an N64 Classic Edition is not on the cards right now. Rumours have been swirling about a mini version of the Big N’s cartridge based system for a while now, and at one point, it looked pretty certain it would happen. Take a look at this leak of a supposed N64 Classic Edition logo, for example. However, speaking during an interview with Kotaku, the Regginator said that while he ‘would not ever rule something out… what I can tell you is certainly that’s not in our planning horizon....

Lat month, developer Hello Games confirmed that No Man’s Sky was heading to Xbox Game Pass for PC in June. Indeed, the game will be available on the service tomorrow — but it also comes with a bonus. Today, the developer revealed the game will now have cross-play built into its multiplayer features. Beyond No Man’s Sky, four other games including Battletech and The Bard’s Tale: Remastered and Resnarkled are coming to Xbox Game Pass for PC this June....

Six years after its launch, there’s a hell of a lot to love about No Man’s Sky; its rudimentary combat system, however, isn’t really one of them, barely having evolved since the exploratory space sim’s initial release back in 2016. That, though, is set to change with today’s new Sentinel update, which brings with an much-needed combat overhaul along with AI mechs and robotic drone pals, plus other miscellaneous combat-focused additions....
