Paladins, a new free-to-play first-person hero shooter, has launched in open beta on Steam – but you’d be forgiven for mistaking it for a certain other game. Developed by Smite creators Hi-Rez Studios, Paladins promises a “blend of fast paced shooter action, a diverse cast of champions and deep character customization”, with players able to customise their heroes via collectible cards. But there’s no two ways about it: it looks and sounds strikingly similar to Overwatch....

The Call of the Mountain expansion is only a few days away, but previews aren’t over just yet. A couple of days ago we got a look at the new Legends of Runeterra champion Diana and her support, which we will go over here in detail. Diana is the champion of the Lunari archetype, which we covered last week. She is a 2 drop with 2/2 and Quick Attack. Her effect reads, “Nightfall: Give me Challenger this round,” and she levels up after 4 or more Nightfall effects are activated....

Remember last week when I told you publisher Deep Silver and developer Volition had a showcase all about the customisation coming in the Saints Row reboot? Well, it’s here, and boy has it delivered. Let’s put it this way, when the Saints Row team said the customisation will cover “all aspects of player choice in the game”, they really meant it. Today Aquaplus and Shiravune announced the release date of the next Utawarerumono game “Monochrome Mobius: Toki no Taika”, titled in English “Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs” You’ve heard it right, the game will be released in English on day one by Shiravune. It’ll launch on September 8 for PS5, PS4, and PC via Steam. At the moment, it actually isn’t known whether the English version will come to PS5 and PS4, but the PC version is confirmed by Shiravune....

Nintendo will run its first ever Super Bowl commercial, with the 30 second spot focussing on Nintendo Switch and its major launch game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Imagine Dragons’ new song “Believer” also features in the ad. The ad is scheduled to run during the Super Bowl’s fourth quarter on February 5. “The most anticipated video game system and video game of the year will be seen on the biggest stage of the year,” said Nicolas Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Marketing....

During the latest Nintendo Direct, Square Enix announced Octopath Traveler 2. The new chapter of the Octopath Traveler series will bring new travelers, whose paths will vary depending on the time of day. The game will include eight brand-new heroes for players to follow in their epic adventures. Octopath Traveler 2 will release on Nintendo Switch on February 24, 2023.
