Hermen Hulst is ready to be PlayStation’s head of Worldwide Studios. The former managing director at Guerrilla Games says that Sony has big plans for the PlayStation 5 that include creating “new and different experiences for a new generation of gamers.” In November, after nearly two decades working on Horizion: Zero Dawn and the Killzone franchise at Guerrilla, Hulst was announced as the new head of Worldwide Studios. He is replacing games industry icon Shuhei Yoshida, who is stepping into a new position that will work with external developers to bring new games into the PlayStation ecosystem....

After having delayed its normal two-week update cadence, Valorant’s latest patch is finally here this week, but it turns out that it’s only a small one. Sonic Powered is about to launch a new game for Nintendo Switch, Landing Hero Haneda x 787. As the title suggests, the game challenges players to land a Boeing 787 at the scenic Tokyo Haneda Airport. Frosthaven is coming as the official sequel to Gloomhaven, the world-renowned board game that comes in a 22-lb box. Gloomhaven came out back in 2017 after raising $4.4 million in Kickstarter funding, and it’s arrival was hailed as the best thing to hit board gaming since Settlers of Catan. It was the top-rated game on BoardGameGeek.com for almost three years running and won best overall game from the prestigious site on its release in 2017....

There are suspiciously few games set in open worlds and based around dragon-riding. It seems like a concept that would be done to death, doesn’t it? But On the Wings – Birth of a Hero attempts just that. Made by a very small indie developer, the game entered Early Access about a month back and boasts 24 missions and eight dragons to ride. Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition will launch this holiday season for Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam, Moon Studios has announced at Gamescom. The new edition aims to incorporate much of the fan feedback the studio has been listening to since the game launched earlier this year. The studio promises new areas, with new exciting artwork and gameplay mechanics – and potentially new abilities. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but Moon Studios said on Facebook that “people that already own the game will be able to upgrade for a very comfortable price”....

Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami thinks it will be a decade before motion controls will be mainstream. Microsoft and Sony are attempting to cash in on the success the Nintendo Wii has had with motion control. However, it will be a long while before gamers, across the board, will trade-in their standard controllers.
