Mojang Studios announced that Minecraft has topped 200 million sales since its launch in 2009, with 126 million people dropping into the game on a monthly basis (via The Verge). Expectedly, these numbers have been helped by the current coronavirus crisis, because people have been keeping themselves to themselves to slow the spread of the virus. In April, Minecraft recorded a 25 per cent increase in new players and a 40 per cent increase in multiplayer play....

Capcom has announced that Monster Hunter: World players will soon be able to dress their hunters up like wise-cracking Devil May Cry hero, Dante. The latest crossover for the record-setting action-adventure game will let players strap on Dante’s red leather coat and silver hair, as well as being able to wield his iconic Force Edge sword. The weapon will fall under Monster Hunter: World’s Charge Blade category, though unlike its stablemates can’t be equipped with a shield (don’t fret though, as you can still block attacks)....

While Bungie may be busy getting acquired by Sony, the developers have also been hard at work improving Destiny 2 for its players. The latest TWAB blog post has landed, and among updates for Trials of Osiris, the upcoming Solstice event, and a new dungeon, the patch notes also revealed an important improvement, with players now getting even more storage room in their vault. Guardians who love to hoard their loot will be happy to hear that instead of 500 slots, you will now have 600 slots to store all the shiny loot you collect....

The personal takes on Mortal Kombat 11 have been a bit of a mixed bag. The NetherRealm release seems to be quite polarizing, receiving plaudits for the gameplay, but there are other aspects which have been the subject of criticism, with Ronda Rousey’s playing Sonya Blade one of the biggest sore points among fans. It was recently reported that players have been turned off by the UFC Hall of Famer’s voice acting, but that’s not the only reason they have taken issue with her inclusion....

Mortal Kombat X is starting to look pretty good. Essentially the last iteration merged with NetherRealm’s Injustice, it’s one of those games that, thankfully, refuses to take itself too seriously as is all the better for it. Given that this is the sequel to what many saw as a reboot for the franchise, though, all the bells and whistles are back too, including the much fabled story mode. Only this time it doesn’t suck....

UPDATE 16/08/22: Following its preemptive screen leak yesterday, Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that Black Adam and Stripe will be joining the MultiVersus roster this season. We had heard the rumours, thanks to an accidental leak from the Epic Games Store, but now Naughty Dog has officially confirmed that the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection for PC will be arriving on 19th October. Along with this news, we also have a new trailer (see below) and more details about the game’s graphical adjustments and customisation options, among others. It’s notoriously difficult to make a film about the holocaust. The real life horrors are so monumentally huge, so shocking, so ungraspable, that any attempt to package them up into two-hour drama often seems trite for trying. Films about the Nazi war crimes need to be made, but few directors manage to shoulder the responsibility without buckling under the facts. Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass, The Twilight Saga: New Moon) looks for a way in via an extraordinary post-war story about the capture of Adolf Eichmann, but he ends up making an oddly disjointed thriller that doesn’t quite know what kind of film it wants to be....

Warner Bros. has just announced that Injustice 2, which isn’t even out yet, is going to have an eSports championship series with a total prize pool of $600,000. Registration is open now. As a comparison, prize pools for big League of Legends or DoTA tournaments can exceed several million. For the uninitiated, when we say ‘total prize pool’ it doesn’t mean that the top prize is $600,000, but that all the prizes accoss the different series’ add up to that....

Ahead of Luigi’s Mansion 3’s release in October, Nintendo has shown off a lengthy gameplay demo of the upcoming Switch exclusive. Clocking in at around thirty minutes, the new footage from Gamescom features both single-player and co-op gameplay set in a spooky new setting. The location in question is the garden-themed floor of the main hotel in the game called the Garden Suit, and it’s crawling with plenty of enemies. There’s overgrown foliage and plant life everywhere, with snakes and mice hiding and waiting to attack Luigi....

Arkane and Bethesda have given us all a bite sized teaser highlighting the thrills and bloody spills that are coming our way in Redfall. “The town of Redfall is under siege by a legion of vampires who have cut the island off from the outside world,” the description reads. “Trapped with a handful of survivors, choose from a roster of heroes to create the perfect team of vampire slayers and take back Redfall....

It seems like just yesterday EA Sports’ Madden NFL 11 kicked off the holiday games season, promising many months filled with nothing but one blockbuster title after another. It’s time for another wave of Xbox Game Pass games! Out today on cloud, console and PC is Coffee Talk, a coffee-brewing and heart-to-heart talking simulator set in an alternative Seattle. Next week, on 23rd August, cloud, console and PC get Midnight Fight Express, a “brutal and hyper-kinetic brawling ballet”. That’s one of those day-one Game Pass releases - more of those to come. 25th August sees the release of Zachtronics’ puzzle game Exapunks into PC Game Pass, and visual novel-style adventure game Opus: Echo of Starsong – Full Bloom Edition on console and PC....

Next year’s Warcraft movie will feature plenty of CGI, but how much screen real estate will be filled by computer-generated characters and worlds? Responding to a fan questioning how much of the film will be live action vs CGI, director Duncan Jones said: “I would say that we fit somewhere between Planet of the Apes, Fellowship of the Ring and Avatar.” Quite a bit, then. Jones also revealed that he had pitched an idea for the movie’s marketing campaign that would feature two parallel trailers focusing on the Horde and Alliance stories....

Nier: Automata’s director Yoko Taro actually wanted to call the game Nier: Android, but decided against it to avoid running into trouble with Google. “Because it’s a story about androids, I wanted to call it Nier: Android,” Taro revealed in an interview with EDGE. “Obviously Google’s for the trademark [on Android] and we were worried about it.
