Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, showrunner for Netflix’s The Witcher, has plans to extend the adaptation into seven seasons at the very least (via games radar). The show filmed its eight episodes for its first season in Eastern Europe, as the team emphasised that they wanted an ‘authentic style’ that would do the incredible fantasy world of The Witcher justice. ‘We are not the poor cousin of Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones,’ production designer Andrew Laws said....

Actor John Leguizamo, who played Luigi in the 1993 adaptation of Nintendo’s Super Mario franchise, has said he believes Illumination’s upcoming CGI film is “backwards” in its casting. Speaking to IndieWire, Leguizamo recalled how his directors Annabel Jankel and Rocky Morton “fought really hard for [him] to be the lead because [he] was a Latin man”. The actor stated that the studio had not initially wanted him to be a lead, but the directors’ push to cast him eventually worked - something Leguizamo called “such a breakthrough” for the industry....

NHL 16 will be added to the EA Access Vault next Tuesday, March 29, EA has announced. The ice hockey sim joins current Vault titles Dragon Age Inquisition, Battlefield Hardline, Titanfall and more, and gives subscribers unlimited access to the full Xbox One game for the duration of their subscription. Its addition follows six months after its release last September. A digital Xbox One copy would usually cost players £54.99. A subscription to EA Access costs £3....

Nintendo in Japan has confirmed that a long rumoured update for its original Nintendo Switch console will indeed be coming out later this year. There’s been a few rumours of the revision kicking around since at least February, and naturally speculation ramped up after the Nintendo Switch Lite reveal last week when new FCC filings were found, but now Nintendo’s Japanese arm confirmed an original Switch model with a slightly improved battery life will arrive there ’late August'....

The popular Nintendo Direct broadcasts, often used by the platform holder to make announcements, will continue without former president Satoru Iwata. Iwata passed away in July, and had been a regular host of Nintendo Direct. “Nintendo Directs will continue,” Nintendo told IGN, “but we have no details to provide now on who will be featured or the topics that will be covered.” It’s not yet known if newly appointed president Tatsumi Kimishima will take on a hosting role in future broadcasts....

Nintendo’s first app for smart devices, Miitomo, will launch in the UK and Ireland in March on Android and iOS, Nintendo has announced. Miitomo is a social experience that uses Nintendo’s Mii characters – introduced with the Wii – to “engage friends in a lighthearted, playful and welcoming social setting”. By using Mii characters users will be able to interact with their friends by answering questions such as “what song has been stuck in your head lately?...
