Ninja Theory has released the first gameplay trailer for Hellblade, an upcoming third-person action game that puts players in the role of a character suffering from mental illness. Developed in conjunction with the University of Cambridge’s Psychiatrist and Professor of Health and Neuroscience, Paul Fletcher, and with support from the Wellcome Trust, Hellblade will tell the story of Senua, a Celtic warrior left traumatised following a Viking invasion, and her journey “into a vision of hell that is the manifestation of her own mental illness”....

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai has revealed that the game’s post-launch character slate has already been decided by Nintendo. Sakurai-san detailed a bunch of new content for the Switch-exclusive beat-’em-up during a Direct event last Thursday, where he confirmed new characters Ken and Incineroar as well as plans to launch additional fighters as DLC. There’s going to be five new characters released post-launch in total, although the identities of them have yet to be revealed....

The Nintendo Switch OLED has been out for eight months now, and we’re starting to see some brilliant discounts for it on top of some already great bundle deals. With a retail price of £309, the Switch OLED is £50 more expensive than the standard Switch, but offers the wider OLED screen, a better kickstand, refined dock and a boost to its internal storage. Fans are eagerly awaiting the next Assassin’s Creed installment, currently expected to arrive sometime later this year, but Ubisoft has yet to formally announce the game (much less when it’ll be released). As such, all fans have to go off of right now is a series of leaks which supplied the game’s rumored title: Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok. Further leaks have left room for speculation as to what’ll be included in the plot of Ragnarok; right now, it’s looking like the player character is someone named Jora–who can be male or female, players’ choice–and the game takes place during the age of Vikings, circa the early 1000s....

NPD Group, Inc., the organization that charts sales in the United States, no longer releases its monthly results to the gaming public, but that’s not stopping their disclosure. Apparently, customers of NPD’s service cannot contain their excitement over each month’s successes. November is usually kind to video game sales since the month starts off holiday shopping in the United States, and this year was no exception as last month was the best November on record for new physical retail sales....

Acclaimed PS4 and PC puzzle adventure The Witness from Braid creator Jonathan Blow will launch for Xbox One on September 13. “We’ve gotten lots of requests to bring The Witness to Xbox One,” wrote Blow in a message on Xbox Wire. “People tweet at me about this all the time! So we are happy to say that this is happening soon.” Blow also has some advice for Xbox One gamers looking forward to The Witness....

Team 17 has announced that the next-generation enhanced bundle of its popular multiplayer cooking chaos adventure Overcooked! All You Can Eat is actually available today on the Xbox Series X|S launch day. The game had previously announced to be arriving on PlayStation 5 at launch, but at the time an Xbox Series X|S date was only stated for “later this year” — it seems the chefs at developer Ghost Town Games were able to get their recipe ready swiftly enough to get it out in time for the Microsoft next-gen launch as well....

Today Mojang announced the second candidate that will participate in the popular mob vote at Minecraft Live 2022. The mob is the “Rascal” and it is defined as “a mischievous mob that loves to play Hide & Seek.” The rascal can be found underground and if you find the same individual three times, he’ll reward you with a special prize. Now, developer Bombservice has decided to switch art styles and make a larger game with their newest release Minoria. Does the game live up to its predecessor? Or do they fly too close to the sun? A horde of NPCs to play against. That’s what disgruntled backers got from Kickstarter MMO Camelot Unchained after hitting out at the game’s developers. Camelot Unchained started out as a Kickstarter seven years ago but has yet to be released or even get a release date, despite $2.2 million being raised to birth its development. Backers were hoping for some news from City State Entertainment design boss Mark Jacobs when he showed up in a Livestream last week....

It turns out that a little downloadable content can go a long, long way, especially in the Call of Duty community. Today, Activision announced on its official blog page that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players raised $1.6 million for Direct Relief. This came through sales of its renamed “Outback Relief” pack of downloadable content for the game, complete with a special costume. Making a difference Sales of the pack throughout the month of January benefitted Direct Relief in an effort to fight back against Australian brush fires....

Ninjas are a popular archetype in the Mortal Kombat series and for good reason. Masters of martial arts, stealth, and often possessing otherworldly powers these warriors are expert assassins. There are a lot of ninjas in this series and many are extremely powerful, some even capable of holding their own against the very gods of the universe. The fighters on this list aren’t ranked by their popularity or strength in-game, but in terms of their power and capabilities according to the lore....

The next Mortal Kombat title was announced today by Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios, and is a mobile title coming to Android and iOS next year. Called Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, the game is a collection RPG where players will collect various Mortal Kombat characters from its vast roster and pit them in “massive real-time group battles,” according to the press release. The game will also feature a “mobile-exclusive cinematic story” in addition to the seemingly gacha mechanics....

Despite production on the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie being just as secretive as ever, both filmmakers and actors continue to tease the film on social media. In fact, one of the filmmakers has once again teased something on Twitter. Producer Todd Garner posted a picture recently of a Mortal Kombat set covered in ice. While the caption is clearly a take on Disney’s recent animated sequel, some fans are speculating that the image could be teasing the appearance of Sub-Zero’s frozen base of operations, the Lin Kuei Palace in Arctika....

The Bearded Ladies, the developer that created the weird but well-loved tactical adventure game Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, announced a new entry into the genre: Corruption 2029. The budget-priced game, which will cost players just $20, takes place in a near-future USA where “corruption” has laid the country low, and it’s up to you and your squad of heavily-augmented soldiers to “protect New America.” The “corruption” in this case appears to refer to a kind of body-horror-inducing force, which warps people’s flesh into twisted mockeries of what it once was....

The Last of Us 2 studio Naughty Dog is growing its multiplayer development team with a new major hire, according to a tweet shared from the developer Monday. The studio has been building buzz for The Last of Us 2 with several story and gameplay demos since the game was unveiled in 2016, but so far Naughty Dog has focused on the post-apocalyptic action title’s single-player campaign since the original title’s multiplayer won’t be included in the new game....

Netflix seems to be keeping its record of offering interesting anime going. Today, a trailer dropped for the upcoming second season of Record of Ragnarok. We also now know that the new season’s premiere isn’t all that far away, either. The 15-episode season will be broken into two parts, with the first ten episodes arriving on Jan. 26. There hasn’t been any further information on when the latter five episodes will be available....
