Netflix has announced The Witcher Season 4 and Henry Cavill’s exit from the show. Season 3 has yet to air on the streaming service, but already we have confirmation that for Season 4, Cavill is set to be replaced as titular monster-hunter Geralt of Rivia by Liam Hemsworth, most famous for playing Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games movie series. A NetherRealm developer has teased Mortal Kombat 12 in a now-deleted tweet. Jonathan Andersen, senior production manager at NetherRealm, tweeted the image below before scrubbing it 10 minutes later. But of course the internet spotted it and saved it for analysis (thanks, reddit!). Squint at the top right-hand corner of the image and you’ll see the bottom of Anderson’s monitor, which includes “MK12_Mast”. That’ll be Mortal Kombat 12, then. In keeping with the tease is an email from someone called Christine warning against sharing a video because NetherRealm’s fans “eagerly scrape the internet” for this stuff....

The classification of gaming addiction as a mental health disorder by the World Health Organization ruffled quite a few gaming feathers. There will be no new major entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise in 2016, with Ubisoft allegedly opting to skip a year for the first time since the release of Assassin’s Creed 2 in 2009, Kotaku sources have revealed. There is, however, a new Assassin’s Creed game in the works for next year, sources claim. Codenamed Empire, the new Assassin’s Creed is believed to be set in ancient Egypt, with one source telling Kotaku that the decision to launch in 2017 was made following 2014’s disappointing Unity....

Nicolas Cage is about to play himself in a painfully meta – but mostly fictional – comedy movie about his illustrious craft, and this undertaking will apparently include a look back at his roles in John Woo’s 90s actioner Face/Off, among others. Twitch streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins has seemingly decided to take a break from streaming. Ninja is known for streaming Fortnite and is currently the most followed channel on Twitch with over 18 million followers. After some unusual behaviour on his social media accounts, it’s left some people confused as to what exactly has happened. Yesterday, Ninja tweeted to say “big things are coming”. No other context was provided, and he then began a two and a half hours long stream....

Obsidian Entertainment’s new ant game, Grounded, may have a feature it created for Fallout: New Vegas. Obsidian announced Grounded at X019, leaving some fans surprised that the game is not an RPG. Speaking to Kotaku, Obsidian revealed how Grounded’s ant colonies will work. The insects in the game can work together to hunt and get food and players can attack these groups, confirmed Obsidian. There may be several ant colonies and these colonies can gain power or, as they lose fights, they can be wiped out....

It seems that the Nintendo Switch might be losing one of its best third-party exclusives, as a PC version of Octopath Traveler has received an age rating in Korea. According to Gematsu, a rating appeared on the Game Rating and Administration Committee website which listed a PC port of Octopath Traveler that was going to be published by Bandai Namco, which is the company that releases most of Square Enix’s titles in the region....

Oculus has begun inviting members of the press to a special event taking place in San Francisco on June 11, days before E3 gets underway on June 16. The invite, which was uploaded by IGN, asks attendees to “Step into the Rift”, suggesting we’ll get to hear much more about the firm’s launch plans for the consumer version of its VR headset. Oculus announced earlier this month that the consumer version of Rift would arrive in the first quarter of 2016, shortly after the launch of rival HTC Vive....
