Microsoft tried to buy Bayonetta developed PlatinumGames last year, it has been revealed. The two companies have worked together before on Xbox exclusive game Scalebound, yet this game was cancelled much to the disappointment of fans. After PlatinumGames teased a sequel to Nintendo Wii U exclusive game The Wonderful 101 on Twitter, Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad reminded people that the developer has just secured an investment from Tencent. This prompted journalist Brad Sams to reveal that he is “pretty sure” that Microsoft was trying to buy PlatinumGames last year....

Infinity Ward has shared a list of changes to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer ahead of tomorrow’s release. The changes were made in response to feedback from the beta. The biggest change is the addition of diamond icons above enemy heads to increase visibility. In the beta, there was no indicator to differentiate between friendly and enemy players. This was traditionally achieved through name tags in previous games, but Infinity Ward took the design decision to remove them, seemingly to add to realism....

The official Call of Duty blog has posted ahead of Modern Warfare 2’s release detailing the game’s plans for its Ricochet anti cheat system, as well as reporting their findings from the recent MW2 beta. In the latest progress report, the Ricochet team confirmed that the latest version of its anti-cheat protocol will be in-place at launch for both MW2 and Warzone 2 on a unified platform. The new version of the system, first introduced with last year’s Vanguard, will include “better detection capabilities, additional access to develop and deploy new mitigation techniques and expanded freedom to update our security more frequently than before....

It’s been a big week for fans of Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as the long awaited season 2 has finally arrived. The new season brings a new battle pass to work through and plenty of new content including maps, game modes, operators and much more. However, fans were a bit surprised that the highly requested Battle Royale mode was left out of the announcement trailer and information. While Activision and Infinity Ward have yet to really confirm or deny the many rumors that have surfaced over the past few months but a new leak may have just confirmed everything....

Monster Hunter: World is officially Capcom’s fastest-selling video game of all time, surpassing the latest entries in the Resident Evil and Street Fighter franchises in the process. The critically acclaimed title has now shipped over six million copies worldwide, despite only launching in late January. Just for comparison, Resi 7 took around nine months to ship four million units, which is pretty surprising considering the horror franchise currently ranks as Capcom’s biggest-selling IP to date....

Four games will be available next week for Netflix members globally as part of its growing mobile game library. Moonlighter, Townsmen - A Kingdom Rebuilt, and Dragon Up join Netflix’s original Exploding Kittens - The Game. All four will be out on 31st May, bringing Netflix’s total games to 22. Yesterday, a new Mortal Kombat 11 patch was deployed for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, bringing numerous bug fixes and small character adjustments to NetherRealm Studios’ popular fighting game. Among the character adjustments were some slight buffs to Raiden, but it seems that the effects of these improvements were not fully understood, as they temporarily allowed the iconic Mortal Kombat 11 character to perform an infinite combo. This infinite Mortal Kombat 11 combo centered around Raiden’s Lightning Strike ability, which sees the fighter send a bolt of lightning crashing down upon his opponent, and a video of the loop can be found below....

Update, August 21, 2.32pm: The official roster reveal trailer has been released, confirming the appearances of Sindel, Terminator T-800, Joker, Spawn, and their launch dates.
