The National Videogame Museum (NVM), located in the United Kingdom, is hard at work to preserve and make available the rich history of video games. The Videogame Heritage Society has been formed by the NVM with this goal in mind, with members including the British Film Institute (BFI), the British Library, museum of London, the national Science and Media Museum in Bradford, Bath Spa University, and several independent collectors. The project first began with a general focus, with the world’s first cultural center for video games opened in Nottingham in 2015....

Take Two is once again under fire from its community of players. This time, the NBA 2K franchise is at the forefront of controversy following the launch of NBA 2K20 last week. At the center of the outrage appears to be the heavy microtransactions that have been added to the experience, with many players likening the game to a casino more than a basketball sim. NetEase has confirmed another major investment by acquiring a minority stake in Detroit: Become Human developer, Quantic Dream. While the exact value of NetEase’s investment was not divulged, the company confirmed that Quantic will remain operating independently, with David Cage and Guillaume de Foundaumiere continuing to steer the ship. Rather, the funds will be directed to ‘further the development and distribution of global online games.’ ‘This strategic investment aims to support the studio’s vision of becoming a global, multi-franchise entertainment company, and to develop advanced technologies and games for the future,’ said the company....

A new Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit trailer has managed to outrun and evade the cops and land on the internet for our viewing pleasure. In this trailer, dubbed “Hot Pursuit Uncovered” Criterion and EA show off some more hot cars, some of the games 100+ miles of road, and detail some of the online functionality provided via the game’s “Autolog” feature. And the trailer manages to do all this while still illustrating how racing games can get your heart pumping....

Two new trailers for Chainsaw Man have dropped, and they offer plenty of new elements for fans to dig into despite their short length. Released via the MAPPA and Crunchyroll YouTube channels on Aug. 5, the trailers act as quick overviews of the anime’s story and action. MAPPA’s offers the full preview of the series, while Crunchyroll’s trailer acts more as a condensed teaser version of the trailer. Likewise, the voices of several key characters are shown for the the first time, and new bits of animation are overlaid with the voice bites for good measure....

Today, Tango Gameworks and Bethesda gave fans an exclusive look at what they can expect from Ghostwire: Tokyo’s gameplay, revealing a deep dive showcase that highlights all of the explosive supernatural elements of the game. Using a technique known as Ethereal Weaving, players will explore an eerie version of Tokyo they’ve never seen before, defeating monsters, known as the Visitors, along the way. Niantic has announced that its planned events for Pokémon Go Safari, scheduled for August 5 in Copenhagen and Prague, will be postponed. Hello Games, the British studio behind No Man’s Sky, is working on its next new release. In an interview with IGN, studio co-founder Sean Murray said his next game would be just as ambitious as No Man’s Sky. “For a while now we’ve been working on something pretty ambitious in the background. It’s a small team but we like it that way,” said Murray.
