With all of the great games that have been released within the past four months, the video game industry appeared to be on a roll. So in a bit of a surprise, NPD’s report for April 2010 showed a major decline from the previous month. For example, the Nintendo DS, which has been a consistent heavy hitter, dropped from 700,800 units in March to 441,000 in April. The other consoles had similar drop-offs and NPD reported that April 2010’s numbers showed an 11 percent industry drop-off from 2009, which is the “worst year-over-year decline…since July ‘09, and the fourth largest year-over-year percentage decline ever....

Earlier this month, Square Enix revealed that they’d be bringing Octopath Traveler Mobile Game Champions of the Continent to North America and Europe in 2022, and that a closed beta test would be coming soon. Shigeru Miyamoto has said that he is “overcome with sadness” following the death of Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. Iwata passed away on Saturday after losing a fight to cancer. He was aged just 55. “I am surprised at this sudden news and overcome with sadness,” Miyamoto said in a statement issued to the Wall Street Journal.
